Following the 2010 deregulation of most cosmetic laser/IPL treatments in England by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the regulator for salons, clinics and tattoo studios (laser tattoo removal) deferred back to local authorities (the council).

In addition to national safety legislation, under the Nottinghamshire County Council Act 1985, there are now additional requirements for certain businesses.

All Nottinghamshire councils, are now seeking to "licence" all premises not falling within the scope of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2010. This applies to establishments such as salons, clinics and tattoo studios using class 3B/4 lasers and IPLs.

The requirements to obtain a licence ('licence conditions') are pretty much standard across the Nottinghamshire councils and include, provision of Core of Knowledge (laser safety) Training and appointment of a Laser Protection Adviser (LPA).

Core of Knowledge (laser/IPL safety management) courses in Nottinghamshire

We hold scheduled courses roughly every 6 weeks either in Birmingham, London or Glasgow. If you have more than two delegates, a tailored on-site course (at your salon, clinic or studio) works out cheaper.

However, we actually have a office in Nottinghamshire allowing us to deliver ad-hoc 'core of knowledge' courses for individuals at the scheduled course rate of 228.00 GBP (price includes VAT). This is ideal for those who don't want to wait for the scheduled courses or travel to Birmingham or London. Please contact us for details and availability.

Laser Protection Adviser (LPA) Services in Nottinghamshire

We provide Certificated LPA services for salons, clinics and studios. Once appointed, your LPA will help undertake safety (risk) assessments and provide paperwork such as local rules, required by the council's "licence conditions". With offices based in Nottinghamshire, we can offer these services at very competitive rates.

It is by no means our intention to 'cash in' on the superfluous requirements of the council. In fact we do not approve of inappropriate, confusing and badly written licence conditions as they detract from genuine and proportionate safety management.
