Registered Safety Consultant
| Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register - OSHCR |
OSHC RegistrationOSHCR is the only register of safety advisers backed by the Health and Safety Executive, HSE.
The scheme was established in response to the Government's Common Sense, Common Safety report, which recommended that all Health and Safety consultants should be accredited to a professional body and a web-based directory be established.
Businesses can have confidence in choosing a safety consultant from the register, as they are bound by a code of conduct and are committed to providing sensible and proportionate advice.
Requirements of registration:
- Degree level qualification
- Chartered or Fellowship status with recognised professional body
- Active engagement in a continuing professional development scheme
- Committed to providing sensible and proportionate advice
- Have professional indemnity insurance
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have produced a short guidance document, Getting Specialist Help with Health and Safety, which refers to the OSHC Register.
In an effort to help local authorities (councils), the government launched the National Local Authority (LA) Enforcement Code. This specifically mentions the OSHC Register as the 'go-to' source for "specialised [laser safety in this context] external assistance".
